Tristan Allen Moseby, Jr. (born April 2, 1985) is an American actor and the son of Massachusetts Senator Christine Moseby. His acting career began in the theater department at Columbia University, and he is best known for his role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games films.
early life
Tristan Moseby was born on April 2, 1985 in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the first child of Tristan Moseby, a law professor at Harvard University, and Christine Moseby, who currently serves on the U.S. Senate. Moseby has a younger sister, Claire, who is currently working through her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in the family's home city of Boston. He has been in the political spotlight for most of his life – his mother having been involved in politics since before he could walk.
Tristan's interest in politics was minimal. He cared slightly more than the average American but his ambitions did not match those of his mother. He did not want to make a career out of it, let alone pursue a degree in political science. Tristan wanted to make his own way in the world, and that was impossible if he rode his mother's coattails. He loved his mother and everything she stood for, but he would not do something that didn't make him happy. Regardless, he was still pressured to attend a decent university upon graduating.
career
Though he was originally expected to follow the path of his parents and pursue a career in politics, fate intervened during Moseby's time at Columbia University. Though he knew it was a risk to his family and especially his relationship with his mother, young Tristan fell in love with acting through the school's theater program.
He had gone into university without a major and, four years later, had earned a Bachelor's in theater. He and his best friend immediately moved to the west coast to pursue their dreams of making it big in Hollywood. It wasn't as easy as either of them had pictured, and, after some time, his friend moved back to his home state after accepting defeat. Tristan, on the other hand, remained out of a dedication to proving his mother wrong. She was convinced he would fail and that he would ultimately come around to her line of thinking.
It was that devotion that kept him in the city long enough to land his breakthrough role in 17 Again. He has found moderate success as an actor, much to his mother's disapproval, and recently landed the part of Iron Fist in Netflix's series of critically acclaimed Marvel adaptations.
personal life
Moseby obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Theater from Columbia University in (2008). Despite a rough relationship with his mother, he is still moderately active in politics – always making sure to vote but never making it known what he believes in, leaving some to wonder if his political beliefs line up with his mother's at all.
media perception
Despite his best attempts, Tristan cannot escape his political family. Every article about him mentions her, and most of everything he does is questioned in a way of how does Mom feel about this? He tries to keep to himself because of it and often goes out of his way to elude photographers and other media, which in turn makes him a recluse. There are also questions of his sexuality, since, when he does date, he goes out of his way to keep it private for his own sanity, but this is really the media's way of scolding him for not being more public about his private life. On the opposite end, he is always polite and jovial when spoken to and even has a bit of a reputation as a jokester.
